Flood Resiliency Assessment for Town of Bar Harbor

Town of Bar Harbor, Maine

To help Bar Harbor, Maine, prepare for the impacts of climate change, FBE worked with municipal staff to complete the Maine Flood Resilience Checklist from the Maine Geological Survey. This work immediately helps Bar Harbor assess threats from sea level rise and flooding, and identify areas where it can prioritize actions to mitigate the threats from flooding. The work evaluated risks in the five main sections of the checklist: (1) risk and vulnerability, (2) critical infrastructure and facilities, (3) community planning, (4) social and economic vulnerability, and (5) natural environment. Bar Harbor aims to use the results of the checklist in its Comprehensive Plan update, to strengthen community capacity, and to increase local resilience.
