Salmon Falls River Monitoring

Maine and New Hampshire

Since 2006, FBE has been successfully conducting water quality monitoring on the Salmon Falls River on behalf of four Maine and New Hampshire municipalities, in order to support compliance with a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) workplan under the Clean Water Act. Monitoring is conducted at seven locations during three sampling events in August and September. All samples are collected by teams in canoes in the early morning when dissolved oxygen is likely to be at its lowest levels each day. Sampling includes a suite of nutrient and nutrient enrichment parameters, integrated core depth sampling, plus salinity at tidally influenced locations. Each year, the annual report, all raw data, and field documentation are submitted to Maine Department of Environmental Protection and New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services for review and approval.
